Polus International College Students Apartment

This college is located on the edge of Chengdu, and it is famous for vocational training such as health and beauty, visual communication. The majority of students come from poor rural areas, with girls accounting for 61%.

Below the third floor of the apartment building is teaching spaces. People can enter from different directions and different levels through open circulations. The fourth to sixth floors are student apartments. How to accommodate nearly 2,000 students in this 10,000 square meter volume is the primary problem of space combination.

The building uses open corridors and multi-level courtyards to connect 72 residential units and 19 public spaces. Using these public spaces of different sizes to provide students with learning and communication, alleviating the lack of private space. At the same time, the principal also hopes to cultivate the ability of students to help each other, self-discipline and social interaction through education and management. Facing the problem of the decline in the number of students in the future, the design also considered that the apartment could be transformed into a community aging apartment. There is a vegetable garden on the roof, students manage it and harvest products.
